Egil walked the dark streets of New York, guitar case slung across his back, trying to find the bar he set up an interview at. He figured between his experience as a bartender, a musician, and a bouncer (of sorts) he was bound to get hired as at least one of the aforementioned. The streetlights were almost painfully bright, and he was thankful for the relief that his hat provided from their bright glare. Grumbling something under his breath about iffy directions and the sheer size of the city, Egil turned a corner and walked onwards, looking around for the bar in question, Black Tooth Grin. After a block, he got the distinct feeling he had taken a very wrong turn somewhere and had ended up in a part of town he had best avoided. Sighing to himself, he turned around and headed back the way he came. He was just trying to remember where he saw that gas station he passed so he could ask for directions when he became aware that he was being followed. Egil glanced backwards and noticed a man following him. No big deal, he thought and kept on moving. As he rounded the corner, he came face to face with two thuggish looking individuals. "Scuse me, fellas," he apologized as he went to move on past them. "Whoa whoa there, cowboy," grinned the shorter of the two, "Where are you off to this late at night with that big case slung over your shoulder?" "Ah'm off to go to an interview at a bar," he said, "Black Tooth Grin? Yall know of it?" "Yeah, we know where that is," laughed the bigger one, "But that information is gonna cost you." "Oh, okay," Egil replied, aware that the man who was following him had caught up with him and was now behind him, and started to get out his wallet, "How much?" The shorter one pulled out a small knife and pointed it at Egil while the one behind him yanked off his guitar. Big, big mistake. Egil yanked aside the shorter one's arm with his left hand and jerked him forward while driving his right fist into the man's solar plexis. Without hesitation, he he snapped his right fist backwards across the taller one's face before grabbing him by the back of his neck and driving his knee into his stomach. Whirling around, he whipped out his .50 caliber Desert Eagle and pointed it right at the face of the man holding his guitar. "Give. Me. My. Guitar. Now!" he growled.

The soft glowing of embers at the end of Sidian's cigarette flared once more before going out as she tossed it into a trash can, putting her hands in the pockets of her black cargo pants. The length of the pants helped to hide the black boots she wore, with a metal strip across the front. Her dark green crop top showed off an expanse of her ivory, toned stomach, covering up her arms to the elbow. Deep red hair tumbled in waves a little lower than her shoulders, and bounced as she performed a few little dance steps as she walked. The music in her headphones had a heavy beat, which her hips swung to. She looked like she had come from a dance class, not from a refresher course in streetfighting, beating her two opponants. 'When darkness comes you know I'm never far. Here the whispers in the dark' the music finished out with heavy guitar.
Sidian walked around a corner, and seeing her friend Jake, smiled as she took off her headphones. "Give. Me. My. Guitar. Now!" Sidian's eyes widened as she saw the gun pointed at Jake, running forward and inserting herself inbetween the two of them, her hand coming up to push the gun away from Jake. "What the fuck is going on here?!" she yelled, turning to Jake. She was like a big sister to him, and he was very afraid of her when she was pissed. "I..he...the guitar...Rodney and Paul...." Jake stammered. Reaching around behind him, Sidian pulled the guitar off his shoulder, careful not to damage it. She played herself, and knew how expensive they could be. "I told you to stay the fuck away from them, and stop this shit. You want to go to jail?! I'm not bailing your ass out again, and I'm not going to pay up your debts!" she yelled, completely forgetting about the other guy for a moment, whose guitar she held. "Don't move" she told him sternly, in a low voice. She turned back to the other guy, handing him his guitar. "Sorry about that...now, excuse me for a moment" she said, stepping past him to where Rodney and Paul were holding their wounded parts. "You two....I told you two not to get Jake involved in any of your shit. I told you what would happen" she snarled, her closed fist connecting with Rodney's jaw as her heel landed in Paul's ribs, giving off a satisfying crack. They stumbled off, groaning. Sidian turned back to Jake. "You go back to the house right the fuck now, I'll meet you there" she snapped, her eyes blazing. After he slunk off, Sidian turned to the guy in the cowboy hat. "Sorry about that, I really am" she sighed.

Egil took his guitar and slung it back over his shoulder, but kept his pistol out. "Sorry about that, I really am" He gently eased the hammer back and lowered his gun, but kept the safety off. There was no reason to not try being civil. "That's alright. I should've gotten better directions. Name's Egil," he said as he shook her hand. He slipped his pistol back into it's place at the small of his back in the specially made holster he got for it. Scratching his head for a bit, he looked around and realized he had no friggin idea where the hell he was. "Ah don't suppose you'd know where the Black Toothed Grin is located wouldja," he asked in his slightly thick Texan accent, "Ah've got to get there before too long here, and if Ah'm late, it wouldn't make a very good impression on potential employers."

Sidian smiled at him, his southern drawl reminding her of her original home a bit. She pushed her hair back away from her face, letting the waves tumble down her back, revealing her very green eyes. "My name's Sidian, and actually I do know where it is. I was just on my way there" she said with a smile. "I can take you there if you want" She smiled softly, almost shyly. This Texan (obvious by his accent) was gorgeous, and his accent was positively adorable. Her eyes sparkled as she looked back up at him, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "So, what kind of guitar is that, anyways?" she asked, her tone friendly.

Egil grinned at the offer. She seemed like a nice girl and a decent human being. The fact that she was drop dead gorgeous didn't hurt either, and her slight twang conjured up memories of home, which he was starting to miss a little. "Ah'd love that, darlin," he replied with a smile, "And mah guitar is a Gibson Les Paul, electric. Ah'm not a huge fan of the body shape, but it's easier to haul around than the style I want, something like a Gibson X-plorer but Ah'm lookin around for somethin flared out a bit more." He absently reached back and thumbed the safety off and turned towards the street some. "Ah admire a woman who is willin to stand up for her friends like that. It's a testament to your character. So lead the way, pretty lady," he grinned, gesturing outwards.

Sidian grinned in return, her green eyes sparkling. "Darlin', huh? Haven't been called that in a long time, since back when I lived on the salt flats" she answered with a grin. She nodded her head down the street, enjoying walking side by side with him. Her own gun, a colt 45, was in a loop in the inside of the back of her cargos, which hung low on her hips. Those hips swung as she walked, testimate to her love of dance. His comment about her protecting others made her smile. "Jake's like a little brother to me. I met him when I moved here, a little over a year ago. He tried to pickpocket me, not a good idea, really. Well, I ended up getting it out of him that he was trying to pay back these guys who he'd borrowed money from. Since then, I've had to bail him out of jail, and he lives with me. Those two guys have been on his case lately, and he knows I've been a little strapped for cash, so he's been trying to help. I know his heart's in the right place, but damn, that boy needs to grow a brain" she finished with a sigh. After a moment, she looked over at him, her smile soft. "So what's another southerner like yourself doing here in the big city?" she asked softly, her thumbs hooked on her back pockets as she walked.

As she walked along beside him, hands in her back pockets, Egil couldn't help but notice how nicely that accentuated her curves. With a slight blush, he averted his eyes quickly and responded, "Ah got tired of bein out in the middle ah nowhere. Ah love the small town feel. It's very homey and welcomin, but damnit, it's the same ole shit just on different days. Ah wanted to go out somewhere and see all sortsa people. Go to a big city and try to make it on mah own. So Ah figured what better one than New York?" He smiled at Sid for a bit and asked, "So the salt flats are kinda far from here, too. What brings you here?"

Sidian smiled at the question, her eyes watching around them for any troublemakers. Not that she really thought she'd run into any tonight, with the two of them walking together. Egil looked like he could hold his own, and it was known by now that she could. "I haven't been home to the salt flats in a long time. I hear what you say about the same shit, though. Nothing here is ever the same, really. Doesn't help when you have a little brother who is constantly getting into something or other. Speaking of which.." she quickly got out her cell phone and dialed a number, talking rapidly. "You're gonna stay there for the night, and I'm sending Erika over there to make sure you do. I know you don't need a babysitter, I figured you're 16, you can handle yourself, but it's for company and my piece of mind, so get over it. We'll discuss tonight when I get home" she said, her voice still having a little more than a trace of annoyance in it. "Sorry about that" Sidian said to Egil as she shut her phone and slipped it back into one of the many pockets in her cargos. "Anyways, as I said, I haven't lived on the salt flats since I was about 16. I go back every once in a while to visit the folks, but haven't much lately, due to money being short. But yeah, after I turned 16, we lived in Japan for a while. Well, until I moved back here in 2007, and my parents went back to the Salts" she explained as they walked, nearing the Black Toothed Grin.

Egil's eyes widened a little, she'd been to a foreign country. Not just traveled to another state, no, she went across the ocean to a foreign country. The idea of moving across his own country to one of the most, if not THE most, populous cities in the US was a daunting enough idea for him. "Wow," he said, eyes large, "That must've been interesting. New York is the first place outside of Lubbock that Ah've set foot. Kinda daunting." They arrived at the Black Toothed Grin, and he glanced at her with that smile of his, "Irregardless of how this interview goes, Ah'd like to buy you a drink afterwards, whaddaya say?"

Sidian grinned at him, that smile of his making her slightly weak in the knees. "Sounds good to me, darlin' " she said, noticing that her accent got more pronounced around him. They made their way into the bar, and Sidian grinned, recognizing some familiar faces. A few people waved to her as they stopped at the bar. She waved back, then took her usual stool at the dead center of the bar. "Hey Randy, where's Trace at?" she asked the bartender. "He's right over there in the booth, waiting on some new guy who wants to audition" came the reply. Sidian grinned and slipped her arm around Egil's waist, who was still standing beside her. "Found him" she said with a grin. "So, you performing again tonight?" Randy asked, cleaning a glass. "Nah, not tonight. You know it's only once or twice a month, Randy" "Yeah, yeah, but you know how much we love that voice of yours" he replied. "Yeah, whatever" she answered with a grin. "C'mon, lets go talk to Trace" she said to Egil, taking his hand and leading him through the crowd to a corner booth where the owner, Trace sat. "Hey Trace, I found your new golden boy" Sidian joked with a playful grin, her eyes sparkling.

Egil's eyes widened when Sid slipped her arm around his waist, but it was more out of surprise than anything else. He liked this girl a lot and they seemed to be hitting it off quite well despite him nearly blowing her adopted younger brother's head off earlier that evening. He turned bright red when she described him as Trace's new "golden boy."
"Uh, howdy," Egil reached out his hand to shake Trace's, "Ah'm the new guy. Ah'm hopin that between my three talents, Ah can prove to be of some use to you here." Trace eyeballed the new guy, "Okay kid, I know from over the phone you've got past bartending experience. How many years was that?" "Six, sir," Egil replied, making certain to maintain eye contact at all times. His momma had hammered that into him since he was old enough to understand what eye contact was. "Uh huh," grunted Trace, "You also said you have some experience as a bouncer?" "Well, sort of sir," Egil grinned, "We didn't officially have a bouncer, but then that's because with me around, we didn't need one. While we didn't get riffraff too much, I know how to take out the trash." Trace thought on this for a moment before speaking up, "Alright, kid, here's the deal, I'll have you go on a test run tomorrow night, you'll work with Randy over there. He'll watch you and see how you do. As for the last part of your interview, there isn't anything I can ask you, so get your butt on stage and show me what you've got."
Egil stepped up on stage and after searching for a bit, found a chord leading to a decent amp. He pulled out his Les Paul and tuned it up right quick before plugging it in and turning up the amp to 8. As he gazed out over the bar crowd, he saw several patrons laughing at him and shaking their heads. His eyes narrowed some, probably figured he was some country hick, here to bore them with country music. While it's true that he can play country music, he preferred hard rock and metal to anything else. As his gaze settled on Sidian, his eyes softened, and he smiled warmly. After warming up his fingers a bit, he decided to show off his range, and opened up with Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover, followed by Master of Puppets by Metallica, followed by Make Me Believe by Godsmack, which he then followed with Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth. Wolf by Iced Earth came next and was tailed by Highway Chile by Jimi Hendrix. After that, he played Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones and followed that with Eric Clapton's Layla, which led the way for Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird. For one final display of dexterity and skill, he played out the entire two guitar solo section of Dragonforce's Through the Fire and Flames. His fingers now rather shakey, a slight sheen of sweat on his brow, and quite thankful that he had his cowboy hat on to keep his hair out of his face, Egil grinned at Trace.

Sidian grinned at the shock on Trace's face as Egil played through all the rifts. The guy was good, very good. She was glad she'd run into him. A lot of the crowd had a shocked look on their faces too, and she giggled. "Hey Trace, let me test how good he can do with a partner" she suggested, nudging him. Trace grinned up at her, with a slight chuckle. "Three times in a month? We're truly blessed" he said with a chuckle, only half serious. Sidian grinned herself and made her way to the stage, saying hi to a few people on the way. Most of the regulars had been cheering for him, then quieted. Now, they saw her and started to cheer again, along with catcalls randomly thrown in. "Hey, start 'Paint it Black' again" she said quietly to Egil as she hopped up on stage, grabbing one of the mics. The crowd cheered as she moved her hips a little in rythm to the opening rifs.
Sidian's voice was black velvet, with all the playfulness of fire in it and sass. Her hips moved as she sang, the crowd getting into it and cheering. She saw Trace looking and nodded to him discreetly, giving her mark of approval of Egil. He nodded back with a grin himself, taking a drink of his whiskey. The song ended, and the bar went nuts, cheering and whistling. Sidian turned to Egil, a huge grin on her face. "Welcome to the team. Not bad for a Texas boy" she said teasingly, her eyes sparkling.

Egil was eternally grateful for all those hours he logged in concentrating and practicing guitar. When he heard Sid's velvet voice, his jaw dropped hard enough he was certain it broke through the stage itself and he'd be fined for repairs. But he kept on playing, pushing through the weakness in his knees to finish the song.
When she welcomed him to the team, he felt elated. Grinning warmly, he returned her teasing, "Yeah, and for a girl from the Salt Flats, you seem to know a little about singing. Just a little bit." He unplugged his guitar and put it back in its case. Walking to the edge of the stage, he looked back at Sid and gestured towards the bar, "After you, darlin. Ah believe Ah said Ah'd buy you a drink or two?"
As Sidian stepped off of the stage and sauntered over to the bar, Egil had to mentally kick himself for staring again. It was just so damned hard, he reasoned to himself, those magnificent hips swaying like that, and that gorgeous red hair, and her voice...down boy! Down! Regaining control of his thoughts, he walked up to the bar next to Sid (god she smelled good...damnit, focus boy, focus!), "What'll you be havin?"

His teasing made her grin more, flicking her hair back away from her face. Her emerald eyes sparkled, the flecks of gold bright as well. Her hips swung naturally as she walked, waving to a couple people as she went. "Yeah, you did offer a drink. All right then" she said with a grin. They got to the bar, and Randy came over immediately, a grin on his face at well. "You two sounded great together. What'll you have, Sidian?" He said, an impish grin on his face. "Whiskey, straight up. How about you, Egil?" she asked turning to him. Trace came up, putting his hand on her shoulder. Sidian looked up at him, a curious look on her face. "Carribbean kiss on the house if you do one more song" Trace offered. Sidian thought it over for a moment, then nodded. "One more song" she agreed. "After my drink" Trace nodded. "Take your time" he said, walking away. Sidian turned to Egil with a soft smile. "Looks like they want one more from me" she said softly.

Egil's heart lept into his throat with joy when she ordered straight whiskey. He had tired of the few city women he met as had they all ordered these girly, sugary drinks. He didn't mind a mixed drink here and there, but it was typically bourbon/scotch/whiskey and some sort of Coke. This girl had no problem drinking it straight, which was his policy on alcohols anyways: if you can't enjoy it straight, don't bother with it. Grinning ear to ear, he turned to the bartender, "Ah'll have a Tornado, please." He turned back to Sidian and asked, "You make a habit of drinking your whiskey straight up like that? Can't say Ah've run across too many women who care to drink it that way. I gather you're a fan of a Caribbean Kiss?" When Trace walked over and requested another song, Egil grinned again, elated to have the opportunity to hear her angelic voice again.
"No worries, darlin," he said with a chuckle, "Ah'm not goin anywhere. Ah'ma sit right here, enjoy mah drink, and listen to that golden voice of yours." "Besides," he added with a slightly mischievous grin, "the night is so young."
