Jess smiled as she cut up the fruits, putting them into a bowl and snapping the lid over it. On the radio sitting on the counter, the song 'Love Story' by Taylor Swift played, and she sang along, her heart light.
"I said romeo save me, I've been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you but you never come. Is this in my head? I don't know what to think. He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said "marry me juliet, you'll never have to be alone. I love you and that's all I really know. I talked to your dad you'll pick out a white dress. It's a love story, baby just say yes" she sang along, her voice fairly good, her happiness evident.
After rinsing off the cutting board and knife, Jess walked to the balcony as she wiped her hands on a towel. She smiled, loving looking at the skyline of New York. The sunlight shone down on her, illuminating her fair skin and setting her strawberry blonde hair aflame. Her bright blue eyes sparkled, even though slightly narrowed due to a bit of a sensitivity to sunlight. A light scattering of freckles across her nose gave her beauty a 'cute' tweak to it. She'd hated them so much growing up, but now she accepted them as part of her. A warm spring day, she wore jeans and a thin, fitted teal tshirt that hugged her athletic, though still curved form. Around her neck she wore a silver necklace with a heart pendant, a dark blue pearl in the center. On the left hand ring finger sparkled her engagement ring. 15 small diamonds and white gold wrapped around each other to form a beautiful, flowing ring. Just seeing it made her smile.
The sound of a door shutting downstairs had Jess hurrying with an excited smile back to the kitchen. Aidan had had a short day at work, where he was a waiter at a fine restaraunt. She was surprising him with a picnic at central park, a short block from their apartment. At the thought of Aiden, her eyes warmed even more. He was amazing. Intelligent, loving, and handsome, he had a wonderful sense of humor as well. He was fiercly protective, but tender with her and the others he cared about. He was far, far better than anything she could've ever thought of for her perfect guy.
'Ok, so I have the kabobs with steak, and seasoned, grilled veggies. The slices of cheesecake and pumpkin pie are in there, as is the fruit salad. The lemonade and sparkling apple cider is in there too. Oh, thank god for insulated picnic baskets' she thought gratefully.
The sound of footsteps had her peeking around the doorway to the kitchen in time to see the door opening. She walked forward with a bright smile, every ounce of love for her beloved fiance pouring forth.
"Hey baby" she said happily.
