Sidian grinned at Egil's interaction with Darcy, still leaning against the doorway. His quick kiss made her smile, and she hugged him quickly before he started looking around the kitchen. She really did adore him, he was caring and compassionate, handsome and intelligent, as well as having a great sense of humor. She didn't know how she could have gotten so lucky. She noticed Darcy messing with the hem of her shirt, her brow furrowed as she thought. Her eyes looked so sad, and Sidian made her way over, hugging the little girl. "Hey you, let's go get you some clothes" she said softly, a smile on her face. Egil said bye, and Sidian waved with a grin as she made her way back to the room, grabbing a little jean jacket for Darcy and a black leather for herself. She also brought a pair of socks and some tennis shoes for Darcy. She smiled at the girl, taking her hand as they made their way down the stairs to the streets below. "Let's have some fun with this. I know I have more fun at those funky stores where you can get everything from runway stuff to hippie clothes. You can find anything there!" she said, her voice excited and her grin infectious as she looked down at Darcy.

Darcy was somewhat startled when the woman hugged her -again!-. She returned it though, savoring the few seconds of being safe in this person's arms. "Yes ma'm," she said softly, waiting patiently to start walking, already preparing herself for the pain in her feet, even though the bandages would hold up for a....
The woman brought socks and shoes over. She smiled back and carefully slipped on the shoes, wiggling her toes before looking back up at the woman as they walked down the stairs. With the bandages, socks, and shoes between her feet and the cement, it didn't hurt much at all. Then the woman started to talk about where they should go shopping. She grinned back, unable to help it, and nodded in complete agreement. Fun would be good, and the prices might not be bad either. After a moment of thought, she tentatively reached out and took the woman's head gently, looking up at her and biting her lip slightly to see if it was okay.

Sidian smiled down at the little girl, the streetlights sending red sparks off her hair as she took her hand. Her smile was warm, friendly. She'd never really thought of ever having a family, children. She figured she wasn't any good with kids. She knew she had a bad temper, a short attention span, and little patience. But somehow, all that seemed to dissolve around Darcy. She squeezed Darcy's hand gently, winking at her. "Just call me Sidian, or Sid" she said softly. A realization hit her. "Your feet must be hurting, little one. C'mon up here, I'll give you a piggyback ride" she said, crouching down so Darcy could climb up on her back for a piggy back ride.

Darcy couldn't help but smile back at the woman. When her hand was squeezed, she didn't even flinch, though it was odd. With the woman, it was almost comforting, that gentle squeeze, as if the other person were trying to send their happiness, their good emotions, through it.
Then the woman told Darcy her name. She remembered her earlier conundrum with Egil, the uncertainty of whether or not she really was allowed to use the person's name. She bit the inside of her cheek thoughtfully, running it through her mind, and was therefore startled when Sid stopped, said something about her feet, and crouched down. Darcy stared at her for a moment, then very carefully climbed up the woman's back, taking great care not to pull Sid's hair, and secured a gentle hold on Sid's shoulders. It was scary at first, having no control, but it was nice as well, and her feet didn't hurt at all now. She smiled. "Thank you miss Sid," she said softly, having decided to meet in the middle.

Sid chuckled as they walked down the sidewalk, purposely bouncing every once in a while to make Darcy giggle. "Honestly dear, you can just call me Sid. Well, if you want, it's up to you" Sid said, her grin and tone of her voice light. They found themselves shortly in front of the first thrift shop, a great place with all sorts of fabrics. Sid helped Darcy down gently, then taking her hand, walked through the doors, Darcy ahead of her. The store owner, a friendly jamaican woman named Chloe, greeted them as they walked through. "Hey Chloe, you have anything for my little one?" Sid asked the woman, a friendly smile on her face. Chloe nodded, gesturing them towards the dressing rooms in the back. "Go ahead back, I'll bring a bunch of stuff for you" Chloe said.

Darcy was startled when Sid bounced the first time, but afterwards, she giggled every time, even though her hands would grip Sid's shoulders a little tighter each time. When it came to her calling anyone by their first name, though, she frowned slightly. After a moment, she felt comfortable enough to speak. "I'd rather call you miss Sid, miss Sid."
When they got into the first shop, she was somewhat disappointed that she had to get down, but she understood of course. She took the proffered hand, gripping it tightly when she saw another person. It was a woman, though, so she loosened her hold and smiled up at the woman, then obediently followed Sid to the back. It was a little scary, being out in the open, but all she had to do was look up at Sid or squeeze her hand gently, and she was reminded that she wasn't alone anymore. Rather than staying quiet, she decided to talk. In fact, she would do more than that: She would ask a question, something she wouldn't have dared to do at the house. "Miss Sid?" She paused, then plowed ahead. "Why does that woman have a funny accent?"

Sidian looked down at Darcy's innocent little face and chuckled. "Chloe is from Jamaica, an island in the tropics. Their voices sound different from ours, just like someone from the South would too" she explained patiently with a smile on her face. Chloe came back with armfulls of clothes, and Sidian nudged Darcy towards one of the dressing rooms. Sensing the girl's hesitation, she thought for a moment, grabbing a few articles of clothing off the racks. "C'mon Darcy, I'll try stuff on with you" she said with a grin. She slipped into one dressing room, with Darcy in the one next to her, and came out a few minutes later, in a gigantic, horribly patterned blue and brown dress and a floppy hat. She swirled with a playful grin on her face. "Well, what do you think?" she asked Darcy, who'd also come out.

Darcy nodded, understanding the explanation. Then Chloe came back with a huge armful of clothes. She stared at it, her eyes wide, and hesitated. Then Sid was nudging her to a room, and all of the sudden grabbing clothes for herself! Darcy nodded after a moment, and stepped into a room. She pulled off her clothes and changed in seconds, pulling on a pair of embroidered jeans and a plain dark red t-shirt. Walking out, she stared at Sid before doubling over in joyous laughter. Finally she stood up and looked at Sid, then started to giggle again. She had to turn around and go back in the room so she could stop. After that, it was easy. The stress had broken, and when they finished, she had multiple outfits.
Getting to the register was hard for her, though. She kept wanting to put outfits back, make excuses about why something didn't fit or why she didn't want it. Darcy just bit her lip, though, knowing that it wouldn't make anyone happy. By the time they'd finished in this store, she only lacked a couple of dresses (she wanted them, but she hadn't picked any out yet, and Sid hadn't seen any she'd liked either) and some shoes. Up front, she thanked Chloe many times over, and tried to ignore the price value.
